SONG OF SPRING - Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso (1979)

Long ago you not had something Italian progressive rock, and since we are at this time as indicated and the coming hard winter, what better than to regale a Canto Di spring at ?

Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso reach the end of the '70s with this excellent disc, like most progressive rock groups, would have a rather dark period (not to mention tacky) from the 80 . Not that this album falls short of Come In Un'Ultima Dinner or Darwin! , but maintains a high quality and a distinctive sound, now closer to the Canterbury scene with an orientation very much in line Camel.

Without further ado, I leave you until next year, but first wish you a good New Year's Eve. And remember: if you begin the year with the head in the toilet, is that You start well. Cheers

Permanent Waves - Rush (1980)

terrible 80s Arrive to whip the Progressive Rock, but it seems that Rush withstand the shock pretty well. And, although the change was imminent, Permanent Waves album serves as a transition, without abandoning the entire component by introducing a progressive but simpler and more dynamic sound geared more towards commercial success. LF disappear suites are moderated, much in the duration of songs (with the intention of breaking the force in radio), and the lyrics of Neil Peart have a more mundane content that their previous work, much more fantastic. We are here

about Rush modernized, they begin to use synthesizers to adapt to the times that were about come but at the same time, rely on the experience gave them the style that had always dominated. There is therefore a "bad taste" in the compositions, and we have a typical abuse of new technologies usually caused by ignorance of the "new sound." What we have is a fairly generic style and prudent innovation that did not fall for anything in excess and who knew how to preserve the quality of these musicians had long been proving to be.

LAST TANGO - Esperanto (1975)

What past record! And no guitars! So, Last Tango is the last work of Esperanto who, unfortunately, his career would be finished by issues outside themselves. Still, seeing the quality of this work, one would think that even would have given much of himself.

Esperanto is a very unique band in a peculiar style in itself. One might think that look like Kansas to give great prominence to the violins, or Fairport Convention to include a female voice. But, however, have a very personal style. His music is very eclectic, with a strong personality. So much so that their version of Eleanor Rigby , starting with this great album, makes you completely forget the original melody.

certainly seems to me essential album for any fan of progressive rock you want to dig a little deeper in the genre.

STILL LIFE - Van Der Graaf Generator (1976)

One year after Godbluff , Van Der Graaf Generator give us Still Life, which can simply be described as the second part of the former for its quality and charm of his compositions. In fact, I would have put both in a double album.

not hesitate. Worthwhile.

"BABBACOMBE" LEE - Fairport Convention (1971)

"Babbacombe" Lee is the only concept album Fairport Convention and, in fact, one of the few conceptual works in the Folk-Rock Electric. For this or despite it, is an album that has managed to stand the test of time and today, it's an essential classic.

"Babbacombe" Lee revolves around the false accusation of murder against an innocent man. It relates the actions and thoughts that assailed him until the hour of his execution.

Musically it's great, but surprisingly the interpretive level of musicians is not particularly remarkable. Perhaps the beauty of this work lies in the synergy is created among group members and simple compositions but at the same time, very carefully.

not let it pass.
